Storybook Trail for Summer 2022/23

There is nothing quite like a good book and a bit of exercise over summer, get the best of both worlds with the latest addition to the popular Storybook Trail this festive season.

Our newest installation is another local hit called “Going on a Kiwi Holiday” by Suzy Cato and Arthur Baysting which includes a catchy tune that can be listened to on Spotify. This will be installed by Thursday 1 December, the first day of summer.

Waitaki District Mayor, Gary Kircher said, “We really enjoy making reading fun and accessible for Waitaki’s youngsters, and what better way than a kiwi summer holiday-themed book from the much-loved Suzy Cato this festive season!”

With iconic kiwi imagery including pōhutukawa, pīwakawaka, and the whanau crammed into the car with the boat in tow and surfboard strapped to the roof, it is an entertaining and uplifting local tale.

And thanks to Scholastic, we have two copies of the book to giveaway. All you need to do is visit the Storybook Trail with Going on a Kiwi Holiday and take a snap and email to events@waitaki.govt.nz and you are in to win! (Printed copies are also available at all good bookstores).

Gary Kircher continued, “I am a big advocate for literacy skills for kids, there is nothing that compares to taking time to read together. We are also thrilled to be giving two printed copies away to a couple of lucky Waitakians to take home and enjoy together!”
