Pole protector and warning signs to be installed

Council has received funding to upgrade 18 urban and 16 rural intersections which have been identified through the Road to Zero program criteria as high risk areas.

Whitestone Contracting plans to start the first tranche of intersections in Oamaru and Weston on 30 May. The works include upgrading of signage, addition of line marking, installation of traffic islands, installation of raised beds and the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing for Reed St. Eleven intersections will receive treatments under this contract.

New technology that will be installed includes a Raptor pole protector. This is a safety device purposely aimed to reduce the impact severity of errant vehicles with a utility pole or tree at the Weston Road and District Road intersection and Activated warning signs on Tokarahi Road.

The other intersection works include:

• Whiterocks Road and District Road
•  Cormacks Kia Ora with Springhill and Fortification roads
• Ngapara Georgetown and Weston Ngapara Road
• Tokarahi and Island Cliff Road
• Livingstone Duntroon and Settlement Road,
• Thousand Acre and Gardiners Road
• 6 Intersection with Seven Mile Road
• Shortland and Redcastle Road
• Gilligan St and District Road Palmerston

 These are in the final design process and are to be tendered during June and July for completion during 2022 and 2023.
