For the first term of 2023, we are running two levels of te reo classes:
Te Kākano

- for absolute beginners

Te Rito

- for people who have had a small amount of prior learning (e.g., attending Te Kākano sessions in 2022 or any other past te reo class or online study).

Please contact Lisa Potaka Ross at Ōamaru Library to register your interest for the Term One intake by Thursday 2nd February: Lisa Potaka Ross

  • This year we are asking people to commit to attending as many sessions as possible to build on learning from lesson to lesson, as opposed to the drop-in nature of the sessions last year.

Important information:

  • Te Kākano will run on fortnightly Tuesdays from 7th February to 4th April (five classes) between 12 and 1pm.  Lisa Potaka Ross will be the kaiako (teacher).
  • Te Rito will run on fortnightly Thursdays from 9th February to 6th April (five classes) between 1 and 2pm.  Sophia De La Barra will be the kaiako.
  • For term one we are delighted to have the use of the brand-new Education Room upstairs in the Museum for our te reo sessions.
  • Community waiata sessions will be held in the children's area of Ōamaru Library on alternate Thursdays (when there isn't a Te Kākano or Te Rito class) beginning 16 February at 1pm and running for 30-45 minutes.  Anyone from the public is invited to join in.
  • Te reo sessions and community waiata are all free of charge.

Kia kaha te reo Māori!
