Waitaki Heritage

The Waitaki District is rich in heritage. Our heritage ranges from wahi tupuna dating from as early as fourteenth century that show how iwi lived on the whenua, to rock art that marks the ways people moved through the district and left their marks on limestone outcrops, to nineteenth and twentieth century architectural heritage.

One way of recognising how the Waitaki District’s heritage is to list places on the Heritage Appendix of the District Plan.  There are close to three hundred places listed or proposed for listing in the appendix.
