Land Information Memorandum (LIM)
Note that LIMs can only contain information known to the council at the time of the report.
A Land Information memorandum (LIM) is a document issued (on payment of a fee) by a Territorial Authority (Council). Anyone may apply for a LIM, which gives information on any land within the Territorial Authority district, including (among other information) any building consents or other authorisations applying to buildings on the land. (Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act Section 44A).
Information you will receive in a LIM
Rates charges
Building permits & consents
Private utilities (i.e. sewerage/stormwater)
Public utilities (i.e. sewerage/stormwater/water supply)
Any natural water courses
Any natural hazards
Dangerous goods details (if any)
Environmental Health (any licences held)
Protected buildings and trees, historic buildings.
Planning information eg resource consents, planning ones.
Any special characteristics of the land or buildings.
Any requisitions issued by the Council within the property.
Resource consents issued in the immediate neighbourhood.
(These are only consents issued by WDC and not those issued by Environment Canterbury or Otago Regional Council.)
Compliance schedules, building warrant of fitness.
Swimming pool compliances.

Cost of a LIM
Applications can be dropped off at our offices, faxed (payments must follow) or posted.
The completed LIM report will be faxed if a fax number is supplied (at least 20 pages) and the original posted.
Viewing a property file.
If you wish to view the file personally, then this can be arranged as long as staff are available. You need to call into our Council offices at 20 Thames Street Oamaru. You will need to fill out the appropriate form and pay a fee.
If you own the property the charge is $10, if you do not own the property the charge is $45.
You can photocopy items out of the property file as long as they are not copyrighted. There will be a charge for the photocopying.
