DEVIZES, Wiltshire, England
The town of Oamaru has a twin town link with Devizes in Wiltshire, England. The twin town relationship was formalised on 25 April 1980.
Two major features make Devizes a place of national, historical and architectural interest.
- The first is the retention, over eight hundred years, of the original medieval street pattern which was laid down when the first castle was built in 1080, and which survives virtually intact.
- The second feature is the large concentration of historic buildings, all of individual character, within a very small area. Within a quarter of a square mile there are nearly 500 structures considered as worthy of listing for some protection.
