Malfunctioning parking meters

Customers who use Council 'Pay and Display' parking meters in Oamaru may have noticed we are currently having some technical issues with the credit card function on some machines.

Unfortunately, several meters are affected by the fault which we aim to have repaired as soon as possible. Those meters can be identified by the fact they are not displaying a credit card icon on the digital screen.

If the meter you intend to use does not have a credit card option available, we kindly ask that you use an alternative means of payment or check to see whether the next available machine is accepting credit cards.

In the meantime, we encourage customers to carry coins for the meters or use the 'Text A Park' option.

We would also be grateful if customers could ensure they insert coins into the correct slot as there have been several occasions when coins have become jammed in credit card readers, which can cause problems for the next person using the machine.
