We have made good progress deciding what our plans for the next 12 months will be. Since consulting on our plans for 2017/18, we now have a clear picture of what our projects will be for the new financial year. Thanks to everyone who attended our community forums and to those who provided written submissions with over 80 received.
Councillors have met and considered all your feedback and have instructed Council staff to prepare the Annual Plan based on their discussions. Projects will include repairing the Severn Street wall in Oamaru, upgrading street lighting in Kurow, more development in the Oamaru harbour area and replacing the pool hoists at the Waitaki Aquatic Centre. There are also a range other items that have been included based on your feedback.
At the beginning of the process we were predicting a rates increase of 1% - it’s now likely to be around 1.2%. We’re confident that we’ve struck a good balance between being financially prudent by keeping rates increases to a minimum, while still accommodating some additional items raised by the community.
The 2017/18 Annual Plan will be formally approved on 21 June and takes effect from 1 July 2017.
