Waitaki District Council is looking for experienced Personal Assistants to provide PA services to the Chief Executive and the new Community Services Group Manager. 

Executive Assistant
Your most important role will be to actively manage the Chief Executive and ensure he has all resources he requires to run Council efficiently.  This is a crucial role in the organisation and as such we require a high-flying, experienced right-hand person with the ability to forward plan and assist the Chief Executive to meet his KPIs.

Administration Officer / PA
Our new Community Services Group Manager is arriving shortly, and he will need a top-notch person to work with him to establish himself in this role.  You will have experience in being a top personal assistant and have administration and secretarial skills to match.  You will draft letters and reports, organise committees and take minutes, and 101 other important things.

Shorthand is not required for either role, but we do require experience and exceptional computer skills.

Engineering Cadet

·         Are you completing Year 13, or year 12 with high achievement?

·         Do you have an enquiring mind and enjoy finding out how things work?

·         Have you achieved a good standard in English, Maths, Physics and Chemistry?

·         Do you want to have a tertiary qualification, and not have a student loan?

·         Would you like to be paid while you study?

 

Then you could be the person we’re looking for!  Waitaki District Council has an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering Unit as a cadet. 

 

What’s in it for you?

You get full training across all disciplines of Council’s Engineering Group – starting in roading with bridges, culverts, footpaths, general roading, then moving to water reticulation and treatment, waste water, solid waste asset management and geographical information systems.  All courses of study will be fully paid for.  With supervision from senior staff, together with your own study, you can expect to gain a Diploma in Civil Engineering.  There is a guaranteed job at the end of the cadetship.  This will be the start of a successful engineering career within local government.

 

Council is working with Otago Polytechnic to provide a high standard graduate to Level 6, Diploma in Civil Engineering.  There is a national shortage of qualified engineers so this qualification will enhance your career prospects for the foreseeable future.

 

You will be bonded to Waitaki District Council for two years following completion of the diploma, which means you have guaranteed employment for the length of your study and into the future.

We get a well-trained, capable, and fully qualified engineer at the end of the cadetship, who will continue to take increasingly responsible roles within the Engineering Unit.

 

What you need and what you get:

We need to see that you’ve got an excellent attitude and are self-motivated.    Success in each year’s prescribed program of study and work will enable steady salary increases.  The salary for this position starts at around $25,000 per annum, and in addition you get your courses paid, travel to Polytech, and study leave.

Enforcement Officer - Part Time

Council has a vacancy for a part time Enforcement Officer (20 to 30 hours per week) to meet Council’s statutory requirements under;

·         The Resource Management Act 1991

·         The Litter Act 1979

·         The Local Government Act 2002 and Council’s Bylaws established under the Act

The successful applicant will have had previous experience in enforcement work and a desire to protect the environment of the district through the application of the enforcement provisions contained in relevant legislation.

Local Government experience would be an advantage as would experience in reading and interpreting relevant legislation.

Ensuring excellent customer relations is a major element of the role as is the ability to negotiate through any conflicts that may arise.

Administration Officer – Personal Assistant

Temporary Positions x 2

We are seeking two skilled administration people with strengths and attributes in secretarial/personal assistant duties, to assist the Administration Unit for a fixed term period, concluding Wednesday 23 December 2009.  Immediate start is desirable.

The roles are interesting and varied and would suit applicants who are self-starters and like working in a team environment.

Attention to detail is essential as this work involves diary management for Chief Executive/Group Managers, correspondence, minute taking and general word processing.  Further enquiries regarding the position can be made to Pam Anderson, Administration Unit Manager, (03) 433 0818.
