Big boost for the Opera House project - 22nd July 2008
Lotteries Significant Project Fund has granted the project a cheque for $3,735,608.00
The cheque was presented by M.P. Rick Barker at the Opera House. The generous grant will allow the council to complete the restoration and refurbishment. Opera House Director, Richard McWha, said the news was "absolutely fantastic".
Volunteers Last year New Zealanders contributed 270 million hours of formal, unpaid work for non-profit organisations, equal to 133,799 full time positions. The time given has been valued at almost $3.31 billion.
Like other arts organisations, the Oamaru Opera House will rely on volunteers to contribute to the delivery of excellent service at the venue.
There is no typical volunteer. Everyone from youths to retirees, through to professionals who are able to offer intermittent services, are welcome. Volunteering is about giving but also is an opportunity for socialising, networking, enjoyment, training opportunities and up skilling.
Being part of the Opera House team is a wonderful way to meet new people as well as experience first hand the rich artistic wealth of the region and some of the best touring perfmances New Zealand has to offer.
The Oamaru Opera House is committed to valuing the skills of Waitaki’s community and investing in their development. Volunteers at the Oamaru Opera House will be treated with the same respect and expectations as staff. Volunteers will be carefully matched to suitable tasks taking into account their personal skills, ambitions and areas of interest.
