The North Otago Museum has a history dating back to 1863 and is situated in the historical 1882 Athenaeum building in Thames Street.
We aim to encourage an appreciation of the district’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

Our Displays
- Ka Taoka o Moeraki and the Willetts’ Waitaha collection
- North Otago geology, Maori rock art audio-visual
- Immigration and early European settlement
- Special collections of Timaru and Temuka pottery
- Flour milling, Janet Frame, local photographers, Memorial Oaks
- Textiles, especially of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
- Featured display on local department store Bulleids
Our Archive
This purpose-built facility was opened in 1987. The collections consist of 800 metres of archival records, 8,000 maps and plans and over 600,000 photographic images.
