Internet: Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa internet computers arrive at Waitaki Libraries (August 2009)
Waitaki Libraries had ten new state-of-the-art computers installed this week courtesy of Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa (APN). The computers, gifted to the Libraries, are supported by National Library staff and funded through the New Zealand Digital Strategy.
They are part of a nation-wide initiative to improve free public access to electronic information and communication technologies, with over 100 libraries now participating.
The APN computers have a variety of programmes on them. You can use the internet, do word processing, apply for jobs online, talk to relatives on Skype, check your Facebook, download and edit music and images, and a whole lot of other exciting things.
The Library teams are delighted to be able to offer this enhanced service to residents and visitors to the District. Having these free computers at the public libraries means it is easy for everyone to access and keep up with new trends in information and communication technology. This will help to build a strong, informed and empowered community.
Five computers were added to Oamaru Library, three to Palmerston Library and two to Kurow Library. A free wireless network, or wifi, has also been made available at Oamaru and Palmerston, allowing people to use their laptops to go online as well.
Interloan: if we don’t have it we may be able to obtain a book from another NZ library for you. Please enquire about the fee.
Fill out a Suggestion Form if there is a recent title you think the Library should buy. It will be considered by Library staff.
