Waihemo Community Board By-Election
A by-election was held on Friday, 27 June 2008 to fill one (1) vacancy for a member on the Waihemo Community Board.
RESULTS
Below is the result for the by-election. There was a 53% return of voting documents.
- Curtis, Diane - 329 votes - ELECTED
- Keast, Peter - 214 votes
Barta Hinkley, Maria - 167 votes
Begg, Linda Rose - 147 votes
Russell, June (Independent) - 43 votes

What was the By-Election For?
The by-election was to elect one (1) member on the Waihemo Community Board. The position became vacant when board member Kathy Dennison was elected to the position of councillor for the Waihemo Ward in March 2008.
The Waitaki District Council has two community boards.

Community Board Member – Ahuriri 5
Community Board Member – Waihemo 5
Community boards also have one member appointed by Council in addition to the five elected members. The appointed member is the councillor from the ward area. Therefore the Waihemo Ward councillor is appointed by Council to the Waihemo Community Board.
Council is made up of one mayor and 10 councillors.
