ENROL TO VOTE!!
To have your say at the elections, make sure you are on the electoral roll.
If you have turned 18 you will need to enrol to VOTE and, if you have moved house since the last election, now’s the time to update your details.
Enrolment Packs/Change of Details To get an enrolment pack or change your address (or other) details, call the Electoral Enrolment Centre free on phone 0800 36 76 56 or visit them on-line at http://www.elections.org.nz/
Council also has some enrolment packs available from its offices in Oamaru and Palmerston.
Non-Resident Ratepayer Roll
Everyone who is 18 or older can enroll as a residential elector – see ‘Enrol To Vote!!’ above.
The non-resident ratepayer roll is for people/organisations who own a property in one local authority area but reside in a different area, for example you may own a business property in Oamaru but live in Auckland or you may live in Palmerston (the Waihemo ward) and own a property in Omarama (the Ahuriri ward).
The non-resident ratepayer roll gives a vote for the property so, if it is in joint ownership or owned by an organisation, one person must be nominated to vote. In addition, it only qualifies you to vote for issues which you wouldn’t get as a residential elector. An example is, if you lived in Palmerston and owned a property in Omarama, enrolling on the non-resident ratepayer roll would allow you a vote for the Ahuriri Community Board and Environment Canterbury but you wouldn’t get an additional vote for council or the health board as you would have already received these in your residential vote.
more information about being on the non-resident ratepayer roll can be found in the 2007 Ratepayer Roll Rates Information flyer
