REVOCATION OF PROHIBITED FIRE SEASON NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT UNDER THE FOREST AND RURAL FIRES ACT 1977, THE PROHIBITED FIRE SEASON IN ALL OF THE WAITAKI DISTRICT WHICH THIS AUTHORIY HAS JURISDICTION, HAS BEEN LIFTED AS OF MIDNIGHT - SATURDAY 1st MAY 2010 AND REVERT TO THE NORMAL “RESTRICTED FIRE SEASON”. General Note: In a “Restricted Fire Season” the activities that may be undertaken without first obtaining a fire permit are : (a) The burning of agricultural crop residues, stubble or straw, between the hours of 5.00pm and 9.00pm standard time, or 6.00pm and 10.00pm daylight saving time, provided that no material shall be burned until a fully worked fire break, free from all combustible material and at least eight metres in width has been created around the area to be burned. That immediate neighbours of the proposed burn are notified of the intention to burn. That suitable weather conditions exist and the area is fully extinguished prior to leaving the site. (b) Barbecues lit properly constructed containers or barbecue appliances and fuelled with gas, solid or liquid fuels used in backyards with area around the container or barbecue being cleared of all combustible materials. (c) Cooking fires at campsites lit within a concrete or stone surround, with not less than three metres of ground surrounding the container, cleared of all combustible materials. Any fire lit in the “Open Air“ in a Restricted Fire Season requires a Fire Permit. PLEASE NOTE: PERMITS FOR FIRES OTHER THAN THOSE MENTIONED ABOVE MAY ONLY BE ISSUED BY A RURAL FIRE OFFICER FOR THE WAITAKI DISTRICT COUNCIL AUTHORISED TO DO SO.
