Consultation on changes to the Trade Waste Bylaw

Consultation on changes to the Trade Waste Bylaw

Waitaki District Council is in the process of reviewing its Trade Waste Bylaw. We are seeking your views on the changes we propose making on the Bylaw.

Information about the changes in the Bylaw

The current bylaw, adopted in 1994, regulates the discharge of trade waste into the Oamaru sewer network.

The purpose of the bylaw is to control the discharge from commercial businesses of solids, liquids or gas into the sewer system which could clog the system or damage the network, or create environmental health issues on discharge.

The main change proposed in the bylaw is to extend the application of the bylaw. Previously the Bylaw applied only in Oamaru; we are proposing that it apply to all areas where a Council sewerage system is in operation.  This means that the Bylaw will now apply in Oamaru and the following townships:

·         Palmerston

·         Moeraki

·         Kakanui

·         Kurow

·         Otematata

·         Omarama

·         Lake Ohau.

Some other wording changes to the bylaw are proposed, but these do not significantly alter the content of the bylaw.
