DROP AND DRIVE ZONES
What is it?
A Drive and Drop Zone is where parents and caregivers can safely drop off their children outside school. As the name suggests, the zone is designed to ensure the drop-off is quick and safe.
Why do we need one?
A survey found that vehicles passing some Waitaki school at speeds 10km/h plus over the legal speed limit of 50km/h.
Chaos at school gates with cars, cyclists and pedestrians is becoming a safety issue due to the number of children being dropped off and picked up.
Vehicles parking on pedestrian crossings, on yellow lines, bus stops and driving over the speed limit are also putting our children at risk.
The main offenders are parents!!!!!

How will it work?
- When dropping off—parents let their children out of the vehicle say goodbye and drive off.
- When picking up - say hi, wait till the children are in the car, seat belts are on and drive off.
- Parents can’t leave their cars unattended, turn the motor off or get out of their vehicles.
