MORE DRIVING PRACTICE = fewer crashes
Practice is a plan for learning to drive safely.
Ideal for the learner driver and parents. Top bands, surfers, netballers and rugby players get good at what they do by practising. The same goes for learner drivers. And that’s what Practice is for. It’s a free learn-to-drive plan for 15 to 19 year olds with a learner licence. It’s designed to help new drivers become safer and more competent – drivers less likely to have a crash.
Research indicates that a learner driver with 120 hours supervised driving practice under their belt is 30% less likely to have a crash when they start driving alone. That equates to at least two hours a week for a year.
ACC and Land Transport NZ have created Practice to give learner drivers and their supervisors (coaches) a structured plan for getting two or more hours driving practice a week. More importantly it gives the learner the tools for developing safe driving habits, and the coach the tools for encouraging them.
